Drive Cont'd

Some great take aways:

"Become preoccupied with those you haven't reached as opposed to those you are trying to keep"

"Be a student not a critic"

"Pay attention to people who are breaking the rules"

"Acknowledge what's not working and own up to why you are not willing to do anything about it"

"Don't let success or momentum over shadow your vision, keep the vision out front"

Generators, Port-a-John and Preaching

This past Sunday morning my phone rang at about 6:15 and I knew something wasn't right. I never get calls on Sunday mornings - Jeremy makes sure everything is running right which allows me to pray and get my mind ready for the message.

Back to the story....

The phone call was letting me know that we had no power at the school. However, thanks to an amazing volunteer who works for a rental company we had two tow-behind generators ready to power all our sound and lights for the main service and the children's area. Then a few minutes later Jeremy called again letting me know that we had no toilets because they were on an electric pump. So, we started looking for port-a-johns.

Long story short - we didn't find any port-a-johns but we did pray and I told God we needed power by 9:00 am - the power came back on at 8:30 and no one knew the difference. Our setup crew was amazing - making sure we did whatever it took to make sure that we had the ability to have church. From getting generators, to looking for port-a-johns. These type of people are the reason God is blessing this church in an amazing way!! Props to Rob B. and his team!!!

When looking for volunteers, especially in those key positions, we will be asking ourselves the question are they willing to get a generator, find a port-a-john, and be ready to preach while praying at the same time for God to turn the power on? (this is also a great test for finding staff members)

Do they say this can't be done or do they say we can figure this out?

What you think, not what you say!

A good principle to live by - people hear what you are thinking not what you are saying. You project everyday - from how you act, to how you engage people even to how you don't act or what you don't say - but your thinking.

Many times it's those non-verbals that communicate the most and people WILL pick up on them very quickly. This could be anther reason that the Bible encourages us to guard our heart and our mind for it is the well spring of life!

This says it all!!

Matt Furukawa is our drummer as well as our Music Director as well as amazing loop creator. He does all of this in a volunteer status because he believes in the vision of Lifepoint Church. This post on his blog says it all!

Pour it on me!!

I was so encouraged by these two verses and this one last week as I read them in my quiet time.

I think sometimes we view God as though he has all these good gifts and the ability to pour them down on us. The ability soak us with favor and kindness. However, we approach Him as if He can but doesn't necessarily want to. We come to God with a defeated mentality that He can, but I doubt He will. The truth of the matter is that this is a LIE!!

God has the ability and the desire - He is waiting on us to move with acts of faith. He doesn't want to withhold any good thing from us - He is just waiting for us to walk blameless before him!

Maybe our mindset should be - God is good and does want to bless me and does want to pour out favor and honor so I am going to position myself in a place of expectation. I refuse to live with a defeated mentality but I am determined to believe that God will fulfill every good purpose and every act prompted by my faith.

So, as you walk blameless and in faith EXPECT that God will not withhold any good thing from you!

People

When it's all said and done it's all about people! It's not about strategy, production, programming, events, series, or even budgets! It's all about PEOPLE.

This week I have spent a large amount of time with families that are grieving the loss of family members. I have hugged them as they cried, tried my best to offer words of comfort, and most of all have pointed them to Jesus. It's in those moments that none of the above mentioned stuff really matters. At that moment you better know how to ministry to the soul of a person. And that only happens because you have spent time with the father. Being filled with words of life from God himself.

So, I challenge you to make PRAYER, as E.M. Bounds said, the WORK of the ministry. Because in weeks like I have had knowing the latest leadership principles, or the current trends of church growth aren't going to help you at all.

Speak Man and Women of God!

Came across this verse in my time with the Lord this week.

God hasn't called us to just give nice encouraging "talks", He has called us to stand up with boldness and grace to speak the word's of God! So, take confidence you man or women of God. Know when you rise to speak that you are speaking the life giving, life transforming, Holy Spirit filled word's of God, which have the power to change ANY situation.

Maybe you are thinking well, I'm not a preaching or teacher. I don't have a place to stand and speak the word's of God. Maybe God is saying to you that you need to speak the word's of God not to others but to your self or your situation. Remember, you are speaking the word's of God.
