Whiteboard Update

Great day - got to connect with some awesome people.

Mark Batterson kicked off the day. Two thoughts that struck my soul.

First, "I would rather have one GOD idea than 100 great ideas"
Second, "At some point we begin to do ministry out of memory and not out of imagination"

Mark is the pastor of National Community Church an avid blogger and the author of In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day.

Heading to Whiteboard

Logo_low_res Looking forward to spending the day tomorrow at the Whiteboard Sessions. I am excited about being stretched, learning, connecting with some friends and making some new friends. The line up is incredible and the line up of people attending is incredible. Should be a fun time! Ben has been a great friend for a while now and I am excited to see him operating in his sweet spot. Catalyst is getting a great guy!

DRIVE Day 2

I am continually amazed at the level of excellence that North Point displays in every little detail. The conference has been amazing with great content. A few take aways from the day:

Reward the behavior you want to see repeated.

Is there sideways energy being spent by your organization which distracts from the vision?

As the senior leader you must promote by example mutual submission.

What you say is secondary to what people see when they enter your organization. So make sure what they see is excellent.

This evening we took a road trip. 2300+ people left North Point and drove to their Browns Bridge campus about 20 minutes north. We had a cookout and then a performance by Jeff Foxworthy. It was hilarious!! Great evening of relaxing and having fun!!

Loving the conference and the time I am getting to spend with our team. We have an incredibly committed staff and volunteer team.

I miss Tammie and Owen - looking forward to getting back tomorrow night!!

The Power of an Apology

Got an interesting phone call yesterday from an individual who was wanting to connect with me over coffee. The topic to be discussed is what we are doing with our Downtown Campus. However, near the end of the phone call the individual asked for my forgiveness. I was a little taken back but he went on to explain how several months ago he had said some things about Lifepoint and myself and he wanted to apologize. He said I don't know if you know anything about this or not but before we get together I just need to ask for your forgiveness. It's evident to me that God's hand is on your ministry.

POWERFUL!! I know we do things different at Lifepoint and I know we push the envelop and I know we ruffle feathers on a consistent basis - but this is the FIRST time I have ever had an individual apologize for saying something against our ministry. AMAZING! My respect and appreciation for this guy went through the roof! That took guts, that took humility, that took laying the ego down and pure obedience.

It also challenged me, is there anyone in my life that I need to ask for their forgiveness - the power of a simple apology!
